By default, UCINET displays results using Windows Notepad. That's convenient because everybody knows how to use it. However, it has an important limitation. It can only handle 1024 characters on a line. So if you display a large dataset, say a matrix with 500 columns and lots of decimal places, it's not going to fit and will wrap around in ways that make it unintelligible. A solution is to use another text editor. I use wordpad.exe, mostly because it comes with ucinet.
To start using it in ucinet, go to Options|Helper Applications. Where it asks for a text editor, enter "wordpad.exe". You shouldn't need to know the full pathname -- Windows will find it.
If you do choose wordpad.exe, you need to make sure the settings are right. In wordpad, go to the Home tab, set the font to Courier New. Then in the View tab, set WordWrap to “No Wrap”.
