Windows only!

Please be aware that UCINET is Windows software only. There is no Mac or Linux version. The only way to run UCINET on a Mac is to use a Windows emulator such as Parallels or Oracle VM VirtualBox.

Netdraw

NetDraw is a program for visualizing network data that works with UCINET. It is included in the UCINET download and is automatically installed.

Trial vs "real" version

There is no separate trial version. If you download the program, it will run on your computer for 90 days without having to enter a registration code. Buying the program gets you that registration code. So whether you buy or just try, you are downloading the same program.

32 vs 64 bit versions

The installation package downloads both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the software. The 64-bit version is much faster when you have large datasets (assuming you have the RAM memory for it). However, older parts of UCINET are not compatible with 64-bit execution, so these parts will crash or give you an "unable to run" message. For those routines, you will have to run the 32-bit version.

Note: in the past, it was possible to download a 32-bit-only installer (which is no longer available). If you have previously done that, you should probably uninstall that version. It will reduce all sorts of confusion.

Multiple machines

As an individual user, you can install UCINET on as many of your machines as you like.

Upgrades

You can upgrade to new versions anytime; there is no cost, and there is no need to re-register. The only time you have to register is when installing UCINET on a new machine (at which point you can use your old registration code: it is good for life).

Also, in general you do not need to uninstall the old version before you install the new (although that never hurts -- your data will not be touched). However, if your last installation was the old 32-bit only version (which we no longer have), it could get confusing if you don't uninstall.

Download and install

To install the latest version of UCINET, click the download button below:

This will download an .exe file that you will need to run. Installation works best if you right-click on the installation file (typically called something like setupUCI6734.exe) and choose 'Run as Administrator'.

Once you download the installer, depending on your Windows security settings and which browser you use, you might see this:

<-- what you may see if  you use the Chrome browser

If you just press "More info" it will allow you to "run anyway".

If you are using the Edge browser, you will run into a different but equally tricky process. Please see this short video:

Post installation

After downloading and installing UCINET, you should probably look at the document 'Setting up UCINET'.
