Dear Parents
We are now in final preparations for summer camp. If you son is new to scouting be sure to read the attached article on homesickness.
Below are a few additional pointers.
1.You will need to have your son at the AMTRAK station downtown 100 S E K Gaylord Blvd (near Brick Town) at approximately 7:45am this Sunday. The train departs 8:25 sharp. Adults will need a valid picture ID. No big items. We will feed them Sunday lunch and dinner. DON'T MISS THE TRAIN!!!!
2. VERY IMPORTANT We will load the trailer this Thursday at 7pm. Everything needs to be packed except for a small daypack. There is a snack car on board so some walking change would be good. Do not miss the train! We will arrive back by car on Saturday June 19 before lunch. You might want to plan a welcome back lunch.
3.All mail sent to Slippery Falls should be addressed:
Slippery Falls Scout Ranch
Scout’s Name,
Troop 79, Campsite Arrowhead,
Tishomingo, OK 73460.
Mail early allow for deliver time
4.The boys will need some cash for snacks and ice cold slushpuppies. The camp recommends $50-$60 for the week, but $40 will probably do
5.The following merit badges need some cash to purchase a project
Merit Badge Materials Costs
Basketry $14 Archery $7
Woodcarving $9 Indian Lore $7
Leatherwork $8 Metalwork $12 *there may be others, be prepared.
These are the estimated costs that Scouts will pay for merit badge materials in 2010. There are no additional costs for shooting sports badges, except for the archery arrow kit. Open shoot tickets are available for purchase for Rifle and
Shotgun.
6.The Slippery Falls Scout Ranch (Only During Camp)
(580) 371-2068 phone (580) 371-2074 fax
7.There is spotty cell coverage, so you can text or call Mr. Tigges 760-5180 or Mr. Reese 831-3022 with notes of encouragement for us to share with your sons.
8. Please support your son by reading the homesickness article that was sent out in the email. Encourage your son to complete what he has started. Tell them how proud you are of them. This may be the first time away from home for many of them. If your son calls, you need to be supportive. The worst thing you can do is pick your son up early. This is all part of growing up.
9. Our local emergency contacts are Mr. Barneche, Mrs. Miller and Mr. WilliS.
10.Remember we will be returning SATURDAY JUNE 19 BEFORE LUNCH pick up will be at the church
Yours in Scouting
Tim Reese
