Over the past 35+ years and in mentoring all 70+ Eagles of the Troop (+ another 16 at Troop 298) towards their rank, I have collected many materials that will help the Life Scout get started. Most of those materials have been placed on the troop website at https://sites.google.com/site/troop295planotx/eagles (cut & paste into your Browser) Feel free to contact me at davidablaschkesr@yahoo.com, 972-377-6946 or via mail 3945 Freedom Lane, 75033, and I will get you those materials. I encourage you to share all of this with your parents, as they are another keen resource for assistance and ideas.
First, read the Troop Policy to understand what is expected of you. It is your responsibility to select a project. Look at the Resources page. You can see all of your brother Eagles on the page titled Eagles Nest. On the Resources page, there are Newsletters that describe all of their projects. There is a page titled Eagle Service Projects that details many more. And, finally, there is a link to the National Eagle site.
Once you select a project, you must get it approved by the Troop Committee. You need to make your proposal to them. It is at this time that you select an Advisor for your project. This should be one of the Assistant Scoutmasters that you feel comfortable working with. You must also use the Life To Eagle packet in preparing this proposal as it is required by District, and after you get approval from the Troop, you must get District approval. Now you are ready to execute your project.
After you have completed execution, you must complete your paperwork. All of this is documented in Eagle Scout Final Write Up. This will be followed by your Scoutmaster Conference and Board of Review. When they are completed, it takes 6 to 8 weeks to get final approval from National. During this time you can begin planning your Court of Honor. There are materials to help you here in Planning an Eagle Court of Honor and Examples of Eagle Court of Honor.
I look forward to helping you earn Scouting’s highest rank. Contact me whenever you need assistance.
Sincerely,
David A. Blaschke
