SYCAMORE-Boys from Sycamore Boy Scout Troop 2810, chartered by Salem Lutheran Church, recently attended a weekend winter adventure, otherwise known as the Polar Bear Campout. Scouts, leaders and parents spent a cold weekend at Shabbona State Park. In preparation for this campout, scouts spent 4 weeks in training with each week focusing on topics including cold weather clothing, cold weather gear, cold weather cooking and meal planning, and first aid. Once arriving the campground and setting up camp, the weekend was spent working on advancement requirements, and the scouts enjoyed a scavenger hunt, hiking, cooking outdoors as patrols, and a campfire program with songs and skits. The troop also performed a lakeside church service as snow began to fall. The troop had a lot of fun and learned the importance of being prepared.
Troop 2810 was created in February 2010, and has grown quickly from 5 scouts to 42 active scouts in just 3 years. Any boy aged 11 through 18 is invited to join; no past scouting experience or background is required. Troop 2810 meets Monday evenings from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore.
