November 2018:
November was time for a cooking campout. Each patrol developed their own unique meal plan following a set of guidelines. Some standouts were a korean beef dish and dutch oven brownies. The meals were then tasted by a panel of judges to determine the winning patrol with the best food.
October 2018:
In October, Troop 2810 traveled to Devil’s Lake in Wisconsin. The scouts attending enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the famous lake. A five-mile hike was had, circling the lake and exploring the scenery along the way.
September 2018:
In September, 2810 hosted a Webelos campout. Webelos from multiple cub scout packs were invited to attend and check out Troop 2810 and what it was about. Basic skills were taught such as fusing ropes and lighting fires and delicious meals were provided. Later in September, Boy Scouts nominated for the renowned Order of the Arrow society partook in an ordeal to be initiated into the order, by performing a day of hard community service.
August 2018:
In August, 2810 traveled to the Raging Waves waterpark as an aquatics trip.
July 2018:
July first began with an excursion to summer camp. Hosted at Canyon Camp in Stockton, Illinois, summer camp is likely the most important event of the year. The week-long excursion allows scouts to work on merit badges such as swimming, archery, first aid, and much more, as well as rank advancement, leadership training, and general growth as a scout and person. Also in June, 2810 traveled up to Minnesota on the Canadian border for a high adventure trip in the boundary waters. Each of the two crews traveled close to 50 miles over 6 days, soaking up the pristine beauty of the environment.
June 2018:
June, as the first summer month, saw activities begin to ramp up. The annual catapult campout took place at McQueen forest preserve. Patrols tested their knots and lashing skills by constructing functional catapults out of spars and rope, then partook in catapult competitions. Also during June, scouts were selected to attend NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) to develop their leadership skills.
May 2018:
In May, 2810 traveled to Peoria to visit the wildlife prairie park located there. The prairie park contains wildlife native to the Illinois prairie, including bison, black bears, and cougars. A hike to see these attractions was enjoyed by all.
April 2018:
In April, 2810 attended the U.S. Grant Pilgrimage in Galena, Il. This annual event is held in President and General Ulysses S. Grant’s hometown. Activities included a scavenger hunt, based on clues about Grant’s life, as well as a Civil War reenactment.
March 2018:
The March activity occurred at the Cascade Mountain ski resort. Scouts enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing at this winter event.
February 2018:
February was a particularly strong month in outings for the troop. Troop 2810 attended the annual Klondike event held at the Sycamore Sportsman's Club. Each patrol visited multiple stations such as firbuilding, rifle shooting, and orienteering, that tested their skills in these events in a competition for points. Later that month, Troop 2810 visited Eagle Cave in Wisconsin for an overnight stay. Much fun was had spelunking in the onyx cave.
January 2018:
2018 was started off strong with the first activity of the year: the annual cabin campout. Hosted at Canyon Camp in Stockton, sledding was enjoyed as well as a scavenger hunt. To top off the event, a bingo night was held where gifts were won by all of the scouts in attendance.
