SYCAMORE - Three local Boy Scouts from Troop 2810, charted by Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore, were recently awarded the Eagle Rank, the highest award achievable in Boy Scouts. Alex Handel, Brandon Nelson, and Kevin Loitz are recipients of this high honor. These scouts were recognized and awarded their Eagle Rank at a recent Troop 2810 Court of Honor. Each scout must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, remain active in their troop, live by the Principals of the Scout Oath and Scout Law, and complete a service project, with all requirements being completed before their 18th birthday. This is quite an achievement as only about 2 percent of all Boy Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle. This prestigious award is recognized by colleges, the workforce, and all branches of the armed forces. Each Eagle Scout will arrange and hold their own formal Eagle Scout Ceremony recognizing their achievements and accomplishments in the near future. Alex Handel and Brandon Nelson are both Sycamore High School Juniors, and Kevin Loitz is a Sycamore High School Sophomore. All three boys joined scouting as a Tiger rank in First grade and have progressed through the program as friends and scouts throughout their journey.
Troop 2810 was formed in 2010 and has quickly grown from 5 scouts to over 40 active scouts in just three years. Alex, Brandon, and Kevin are the first three Eagle scouts in Troop 2810. Any boy aged 11 through 18 is invited to join scouting; no past scouting experience or background is required. Troop 2810 meets Monday evenings from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore.
