Black-headed Gull - Tarrant Co., January 7, 2000. One at Village Creek Wastewater Plant, Tarrant, from 24 December 1999 to 18 February 2000, TBRC# 1999-115.
Both of these records refer to returning birds. This banded individual was first discovered at Village Creek Drying Beds on March 2, 1998. It returned to spend the next three winters at the nearby water treatment facility, where on January 7, 2000 the band data was finally read via telescope. It was banded as "young out of nest" on June 29, 1996 at Hamenkyro, Hame, Finland (c. 100 miles NW of Helsinki). This was the first record from the USA (and second for North America) of a bird banded in Finland. [MR].
