About Mrs. Tjaden

Mrs. Jennifer Tjaden has been a teacher at Hawley Elementary for the past 22 years. During these years she has taught 4-6 grades, and has been a part of Team*56 for the past 12 years. For the past 12years, she has been heavily involved in the National History Day Competition in which her students have won state awards. In 2011, Mrs. Tjaden received the Minnesota Historical Society's "Teacher of Merit" award in which she was recognized for her hard work and dedication to the NHD program. Mrs. Tjaden also received a trip to Washington, D.C. to the National Competition where she helped judge the competition.Mrs. Tjaden's passion for teaching history has led her to great adventures beyond the classroom. In the past she has participated in teacher institutes through Teaching American History Grant where she took history classes and traveled with local teachers to historical Boston, Chicago and around Minnesota. Mrs. Tjaden has been trained to be a consultant for the Library of Congress in how to use their online primary sources. She has served on the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County Board of directors and a member of the Minnesota Historical Society In 2014, Mrs. Tjaden was awarded a scholarship to attend the Middle School Teacher's Institute at Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg, Virginia. In 2015 & 2016, Mrs. Tjaden was one of 20 teachers from around the nation each year that participated in the Civil War Washington Teacher Fellows & The Seat of War and Peace programs sponsored by the Ford's Theater Society.
