The following are the lists of names found in the rent records for the village of Armadale for each year from 1829 to 1836. In the first year, 1829, the list is entitled as a list of "arrears" rather than a full rental list like the following years from 1830 - 1836. I have not included any of the figures for the rents and arrears. These lists can be found in a series in the Sutherland Papers, National Library of Scotland, ref: Dep.313/2255 - 2262.
Some of the names have a prefix which appear mostly to distinguish them from other people with the same forename and surname. Some of these prefixes are occupational (cooper, miller, tailor) and some are Gaelic nicknames (Gow, Bain, Dun). Some have another surname as the prefix which is not that person's actual surname (McAskill and McHurstan). Some have the prefix of "Snr" (senior) and "Jnr" (Junior) indicating a father and son with the same name.
