How to resolve a host by name without DNS

This allows other machines running Windows or Samba to be reachable by their NetBIOS names. For this machine to be reachable by its NetBIOS name from other computers running Windows or winbind, that's usually done by installing Samba and setting wins support = yes in smb.conf.

1. sudo editor /etc/nsswitch.conf
   1. Make sure the hosts: line reads: hosts: files wins dns
   2. Save and close the file
2. sudo apt-get install winbind
