ABOUT THE WEBSITE
I have been a fan of Howard Shore's music for Middle-earth since 2001, when I first watched Enya's video for "May It Be" on MTV and was subsequently drawn into the world of The Lord Of The Rings.
In those early days of the internet, finding information concerning such obscure topics as film music was no easy task. One did not just "Google it", and I suspect this may have been in part due to the fact that people did not consider the internet a natural place to store such information.
In any case, I was quite lucky to stumble upon A Magpie's Nest, a website created by another big fan of the music whom I have since had the privilege of befriending, and while a few other websites popped up in the following years, that website alone remains as a comprehensive source of fan information and discussion on the music for The Lord Of The Rings films today.
When The Hobbit films were announced, I secretly hoped that a similar work would be done for the new score. By someone. Yet although a year has passed since the release of the soundtrack for the first film, no such website exists.
And so I decided to create "The Hobbit Soundtracks".
My intent with this website is to collect and share information about the music for The Hobbit films specifically as it pertains to the various soundtrack editions and the lyrics of the songs and poems in the score. I do not see myself doing anything more with this website.
If you would like to contact me for anything, you can write in to earl@theonering.net.
The track analyses have been compiled by my friend Timothée Masurel. He can be contacted at thehobbitcompleterecordings@gmail.com for basically any question concerning the hobbit soundtrack. Unreleased extracts from the soundtrack of the movies can be found on his YouTube channel - The Hobbit - Complete Recordings.
Thanks for reading and I hope you find the website useful.
