Women

Hillhead Jordanhill Ladies

Based at Hughenden in Glasgow's West End, Hillhead/Jordanhill Women’s Rugby team (“HillJills”) is part of a thriving and integrated club that has three men's teams and a junior girls section (both at under 15 and under 18 level).

The women’s section was started in 1995 by ex- Glasgow University player, Liz Stewart. Most of the women playing in that first ever team had never picked up a rugby ball before. Since then the team has risen through the leagues winning the Scottish Premier League for the first time in 2010/11 and again in 2013/14. The team achieved the League and Cup double in 2012/2013, winning the Cup Final at Murrayfield with a try in the last minute against RHC.

Over the years, several players from the club have gained international caps for Scotland Women 15s and 7s such as ex Scotland captain Susie Brown and current present most-capped player Heather Lockhart. There are currently Hillhead players involved in the SW international set-up as well as at Scotland Under 20 level. In addition, three Hillhead players (Jade Konkel, Lana Skeldon and Louise McMillan), along with 13 other female players in the country, are in the BT Sport SRU Academy which is a new initiative to develop top players.

POST TRAINING PASTA AT HUGHENDEN – THURSDAY EVENINGS

Serving of pasta meals on Thursday evenings in the first floor Sports club bar after training – 20.45 – has recommenced. This is to encourage a few more of those who train regularly and would welcome a nutritious meal – well priced at £3.00 ( three pounds ) – to stay behind after training. This is one way to re-establish a rugby culture at Hughenden and build for a successful future this season. Bernie hopes to see more players this Thursday and on succeeding weeks.
