MAKERS workshops revolve around a craft or a creator skill. Materials and tools are demonstrated, examples are provided, vocabulary is explained, and then students can freely explore and create with the materials. They can follow the examples, make up new ideas, and collaborate with other students. Projects can be taken home or left as examples.
The curriculum is designed for students in grades 1-5, but *all ages* and skill levels are welcome to participate. Students are asked to be creative and open to advice and to consider collaboration.
Parents and guardians are welcome to drop off their children for workshops. They are encouraged to stay and participate with their children or alongside their children on their own projects as creators.
MAKERS workshops are offered on a twice-monthly basis. Each month has one topic offered on two Tuesday afternoons. PRIMARY introduces the topic and REVISITED allows for additional creation, experimenting, and skill-building. Students can participate in either session or both for any topic.
If other days / times are better suited or a private session is preferred, send an email with preferences for discussion.
Location: Most classes are held at New Disciples at 610 32nd Avenue SW Suite C in Cedar Rapids. Just a few blocks from I-380 Exit 17.
Cost: Each session is $15 for one student and $10 for each additional sibling.
