Blurb: High atop Hawthorne Hill, near Boston, sits Danvers State Hospital. Built in 1878 and closed in 1992, this abandoned mental institution is rumored to be the birthplace of the lobotomy.
On eve of the hospital’s demolition, six teens break in to spend the night and film a movie about their experiences. For Derik, it’s an opportunity to win a filmmaking contest and save himself from a future of flipping burgers at his parents’ diner. For the others, it’s a chance to be on TV, or for a night with no parents. But what starts as a dare quickly escalates into a nightmare. Behind the crumbling walls, down every dark passageway, and in each deserted room they will unravel the mysteries of those who once lived there and the spirits who still might.

Comments: I found this book a good book to read just to pass the time. It had a few scary scenes in it that made me frightened while reading it. I loved all the characters! They were so funny and interesting to read about! I really enjoyed the variety of personalities. Everyone had their quirks and that’s what made it unique. Tony and Greta had a few funny moments and same goes for Chet. By the end of the novel you felt like you really knew the characters and what made them tick. That’s hard to accomplish in such a small novel such as this one.
I loved the mystery to the novel. You were always wondering what would happen next and what you would discover. There were so many different things that made the ending of the novel fitting. The ending wasn’t cliché or anything, it was simple and fair given the circumstances. When you finished the novel you were left with no regrets or any leftover questions. It was overall, a perfect way to end such an amazing story like this one.
When we started looking into one of the little girl’s diaries that attended the mental institution I found myself extremely curious. It was a great addition to the story and really gave me a history on the place. I loved it! Even though that I found that there was excessive swearing in the novel, the book was good.
