Dear Reader,

The above article covers an ignorant zeitgeist that seems to be influencing how we as a community should assess ideas of progress and development. These discourse structures constructed upon a foundation of fear, cynicsm and the "golden age" of the gold standard continues to remind me of the final rantings of a proud and nostalgic baby-boomer looking out the window at this brave new world, as he stuggles to die in peace.
This being, raised to "do as it was told" under a context of Cold War rivalry in an age of conscription, now clearly finds itself lost because of its own lack of adaptability and ability to think for itself.
A being that clearly demands answers, yet is unable to provide them themselves. In other words: happy to buy, yet unable to develop it himself.
It seems a shame that Mr Thiel has a pop at the hippies. Their perception of counter-culture as a universalist and potentially destructive voice has come to pass.
The fact that simple logic such as the fact that commodities prices will always rise and fall due to circumstance and that firms will rise and fall due to market conditions if they fail to adapt, is still misunderstood and used to panic an ignorant general public makes me think that people are blind to the reality that unlike commodities and inflexible corporations man is always able to adapt.
This ability to adapt is our best quality. And yet, I see people acting like cattle every day.
Therefore, in terms of development:
Ask not why development is stagnating, but more importantly, what are you doing to further develop current avenues?
How are you pushing the envelope?
If the question comes as a surprise, then there is your answer.
Blaming abstract nouns such as the economy, the government or the justice system is merely a way of diverting away from a more personal truth. Aristotle understood development as a process requiring personal ambition, drive and passion.
Let's bring back that spark and desire to develop into something better than who we currently are so that it may re-ignite a modern renaissence!
