Agenda
5:00 – 5:30: Logistics with Janice of CA Teach
Syllabus – Website: https://sites.google.com/site/teachmathtomiddleschool/
Think-Pair-Share: What do you think will be the most challenging part of teaching?
Discussion: Effective teachers have things under control on day 1.
Homework:
1. Listen to this: Why would anyone want to teach middle school? (Click the red box)
We will discuss this in class next week.
2. Reading #1: Teaching Secrets: Get Back inTouch With Your Inner Student
Reading Response: Answer the questions posed by the author. Then make your own All about Me poster from the perspective of you as a middle school student. What would you have written at age 12 or 13?
Think about the following: How would remembering your middle school experience make you a better teacher?
3. Take the Survey
4. Join my google classroom: google.classroom, com with code: 4im65n7 - let me know if it doesn't work
5. If you go to your school site before next class, take notes on what happened in class. Make note of the activity, teacher questions, student questions, classroom rules/procedures, student engagement, etc. Look for clues as to how the teacher fosters rapport and relationships with their students. Be sure to record your observation notes in the Cal-Teach Google Form (link coming from Janice) and bring your notes to class next week for discussion.
