When you start up for the first time, you'll see:
A gray tabbed menu - this is where your subreddits will appear
A sort icon - this lets you sort posts by New, Old and Top
An unusually large amount of whitespace - this is where the subreddits content will appear
Click the '...' button and choose 'Manage subreddits'
Enter a subreddit (you don't have to worrry about spaces, and you can do multi's like 'pics+gifs')
Choose whether you want 'Hot', 'New', 'Rising' etc
Choose how many items you'd like (up to 100)
Click the + button to save the new subreddit - You can adjust your choices later if you find you're getting too much content, or not enough!
Click the back button on your device to get back to the main screen.
You should now see the subreddit(s) you added from the previous step
Click the '...' button again and select 'Download active subreddit'
This starts a download for just the subreddit you're looking at.
To download all your subreddits at once, Use the '...' menu and choose 'Download all subreddits'.
You'll see a progress bar appear, some processing happens, then, the subreddit content will appear!
For each 'row', you'll see the info about the post, from top-to-bottom, left-to-right that is:
Title,
The posters username
The subreddit
The source URL
Whether the source URL has been 'cached' - applies to pictures only, comments are always downloaded
When the content appeared on Reddit
The number of comments
The overall 'score' of the post
You can start clicking any item that says 'Cached', once all items have finished downloading, the progress bar will disappear
Clicking an item shows a new screen
Again, from top-to-bottom, left-to-right you're seeing:
Any media that came with the post (pictures or gifs) - this can include multiple images, if applicable (e.g most posts to the subreddit 'DIY')
Title
The original poster
The subreddit
A link to the source (which you can click)
The comments - which can be collapsed by tapping the chevron and also include click-able URLs
The author
The posts score
The post text
Handling Images
All still images support in-line image zooming, this means you can:
Double-Tap (double-tap the screen, letting go on the 2nd tap. Repeat to zoom out)
Pinch (With 2 fingers in a 'pinch' position, touch the screen and slowly separate to zoom in, reverse the motion to zoom out)
One-Finger-Hold (double-tap the screen without letting go on the 2nd tap, hold and move your finger up or down to zoom in and out)
Once you've taken in the image - fling (start a long scroll, like you want to get to the very last comment) anywhere from the blue title section and above.
This scroll automatically stops as soon as the image and title are out of sight.
Similarly, as you're working through the comments, fast-scrolling upwards will stop at the first comment, start the scroll again to get to the picture and title
Handling gifs and Videos
If a post contains a video, it will automatically start once it is loaded. To pause, fast-forward or re-wind, tap the video and you'll get standard media controls. Tap again to hide the controls, otherwise they'll disappear after 3 seconds
Videos automatically loop
Click the back button on your device to get back to the main screen.
Once you've read a post, it turns gray, you can hide read posts by clicking the '...' button and choosing 'Toggle show read items'.
This can eliminate the need to 'scroll down', since after reading an item, it disappears.
Once you've read all the posts you're interested in from a subreddit (i.e reached the bottom of the list), you can mark all posts as read, usign the '...' menu and choosing 'Mark this subreddit as read' - which will either hide everything, or make everything gray - depending on what 'toggle' you've currently got 'Toggle show read items' set to.
After reading all the posts you care to in a subreddit / marking everything as read, try re-downloading the subreddit
From now on, Reddit Later does a comparison, to see what you've already read - and only downloads things in the top X (based on your choice when setting up the subreddit) that you haven't already read. This helps reduce download times, and saves you from seeing things you've already read.
Go to the 'Manage subreddits' screen
In the above screenshot, you can see /r/all is using around 68 MB of storage, and when it was last updated.
The minus button lets you delete /r/all and all associated data, which would free up space - but there's a better way!
Click the back button on your device to get back to the main screen.
If you've read all the content in a sub, which is using lots of storage space, click the '...' button and choose 'Delete read items from this subreddit'
This option frees up storage by removing the images and comments for posts you've already read, but keeps the 'metadata' - so that future downloads don't download the things you've already seen and deleted.
That's it!
