Group 17- How the Internet has Changed Communication

Conversation 1 - We have so far added a image of our first conversation on the FileCabinet. We used video skype briefly but the connection with Kathryn was so bad that we had to switch to skype IM. Over skype we planned which part of the project we would each research. Our topic is "How has the internet changed how we communicate". We also had time for kathryn to give us an idea of how fun summer in Australia is.

Conversation 2- We posted a video of this conversation to the Wall. A combination of too much Australian fun and a poor internet connection prevented us from getting in touch with Kathryn this time but Brian and I communicated over skype video chat. We used google dox to start on the powerpoint.

Q: How has the internet changed communication?

A:

The internet is revolutionizing the way we communicate. Not only has the internet allowed normal people to effectively create media with mass appeal, it has allowed for widespread communication. Today, anyone can create a blog in which they write about things that interest them. In this way, they are communicating their ideas and opinions to anyone who browses their blog. The internet gives one person the ability to effectively communicate with many others without publishing a book. The power to reach the masses was previously controlled only by a select few media companies. The internet has also changed the way people communicate in real time. Instant messengers have become an easy and quick way to exchange information, serious or trivial, to anyone else online. The person’s location doesn’t matter; over the internet it’s just as convenient to message someone in Italy as it is to IM someone in Boston. With features such as Skype that utilize VOIP technology people can make a phone call on their computer to anyone in the world. They can even see a live video of the person they are talking too. What this all means is that people are now able to easily communicate more frequently and to more people. This brings the world closer allowing us to do business in new ways as well as socialize in new ways.
