Aims

- to use information technology that may have cultural or society influences;

- to create a context in which students had to work effectively with international partners in a project

Time frame: 3/11/2008 – 3/12/2008

The Project

In this project you will collaborate with students from another country (Romania / USA) to create a tangible work product that involves your researching a particular topic, and then create a multimedia presentation with a subject in multimedia, with your partners to showcase your work. The presentation may take the form of a Google site, wikipage with images, a video, a PPT or Google presentation, a recorded audio conversation. You need to use new information from the one received from your professor in the class and to relate it to your culture. Your group will post the final product (or a link to it) on your group's Google sites page, which will be created for this purpose. You will have the freedom to use anything you want (Skype, IM, wiki, PPT, etc) to communicate and to produce the presentation, but in this presentation you need to include also the process – proofs of each student contribution: at the end credits, to record the communication (skypecast or IM archive) and to integrate it.

If it is a Google site not to haev more than 5 pages but to integrate a multimedia element (video, audio, animation, presentation); a PPT not more then 10 slides,; if a video not more then 5 minutes.

Topics

Topics should be related to multimedia, the technology and the Internet & WWW, the influence of these on your culture. It's fine if more than one group does the same topic. Suggested topics:

    • how do you use multimedia technologies and for what?

    • the use of WWW resources in your education

    • what are the mobile phone applications of the future and why?

    • how do you analyze websites with rich user experiences which you like for visualization and/or accesibility, usability?

    • how are mobile phones integrated in your student life?

    • how has web 2.0 and the use of the WWW influenced the elections in your country?

    • what are the five most important web sites you should know about?

    • are you concerned about privacy in the age of facebook and social networking?

    • what do you need to know to be web 2.0 literate?

    • how do bloggers influence mainstream society?

    • what blogs do you read? what podcasts do you listen to or watch?

    • how has the internet changed the way people communicate?

    • how might businesses make use of web 2.0 technologies

    • how does technology influence your culture?

You should read at least two recent articles on the topic so that you'll have facts to share with your partners and you should provide the references.

Google sites

Let's use Google sites for this project management. Google sites is a wiki tool that's easy to use, to acces it you need a gmail account.

http://sites.google.com/site/talktech08/ - is the project website.
