A Few Thoughts about Multimedia: By Alex J.
To me multimedia has become an indispensible part of my life. It is how i communicate with my friends and family over long distances from mass to Colorado. In addition multimedia both through Skype and through the many chatting functions such as AIM i have been able to have a long distance relationship with my girlfriend who is still back in Colorado. Without multimedia this and many other connections that i have been able to keep with important people in my life would not have been possible. Additionally video games of all sorts have always been something that i have enjoyed as a form of entertainment and any videos game from packman to the most advanced games like Resistance 2 use multiple forms of media such as sound text and video. Without the use of multimedia the entire video game industry would not exist and a whole part of the American and in fact global culture would not exist.

In my opinion, interactions through multimedia are taken advantage of by people our age. We grew up with the Internet, exploring all of the possible wonders we could discover. The internet and use of multimedia devices revolutionized business. Global conferencing and negotiations can take place instantly and at the convenience of the workers. Millions of dollars could be saved if a business replaced international traveling with free Skype to Skype video chats. In the future I believe that call qualities will improve greatly and that the world will continue to shrink, metaphorically of course; more companies will have a growing global presence and I believe that the internet along with multimedia mediums have changed the world for the better.

As someone who has had Internet as part of the majority of my life I feel as if there has always been a natural marriage between multimedia and the Internet, as if they were always one and the same. It is only when you examine the elements of multimedia present in today's Internet experience when one can appreciate its importance. Without the combination of multimedia in Internet communication the Internet never would have been a preferred method of communication. Not only can people communicate through text but they can also send pictures, videos, songs, and voice messages. The Internet has even surpassed the telephone as preferred method of instant communication by combining audio and video to create video chat. It is due to multimedia that people can maintain richer relationships and interactions over long distances via the Internet.
