Scheduling training space, especially for one-time events is a big problem and it seems like there are fewer and fewer options on campus. The newer model seems to be conference-type rooms where smaller groups of people are asked to bring their own laptops. I will keep an ear out for other locations.
I know that the TCL multimedia classrooms are always extremely busy in the Fall, but U101 classes used to have priority for those rooms. I’m not sure if that’s still true. That would be ideal, even if I had to move from one level to the other between sessions.
The time of day is bad for the computer classrooms in Wardlaw (where I used to work) because afternoon Education classes start at 4:30. I have left a message double-checking if they do happen to have a free room during one or both of these times.
The computer lab in UTS (1244 Blossom St, Room 304) may be available. There are currently groups scheduled in there each day that week until 4:00. I can try to identify the person doing that training on Wednesday and see if they really plan to stay the whole time. Worst case, maybe the 3:55 class could start a little late. The other issue is that the room is going to be updated. (Mitchell is trying to find out what the schedule is for that.) There are plenty of seats, but as of now, only about 16 of the computers are working. If some students can bring laptops, this might work. Also, the students will need to sign in at the front desk. The front door locks at 5:00, so I’d have to find out how the 5:30 group would get in. It’s a little risky to plan on, but if TCL doesn’t work out, we may be able to do this.
