It explains that the festival is part of an effort to raise funds to beautify the neighborhood and that the festival will feature all sorts of entertainment and booths for buying goods and food.
Fitler Square Sign Vanishes!
In this article, from July 29, 1971, McInturff writes an opinion piece on the disappearance of Fitler Square's sign that banned ball-playing in the park. He argues that it is only responsible to ban ball-playing because people, old and young, use the park and there is a playground nearby in the Schuykill River Park. He also says that the parents of the neighborhood children took the sign out of the ground, which is a form of vandalism and also very unthoughtful.
Fitler Square Residents To Honor Architect
In this article, from November 24, 1968, it is mentioned that a plaque is to be dedicated in Fitler Square Park to James P. Methaney, the Penn faculty architect who started the restoration of the neighborhood.

Fairs
In this article, from May 10, 1968, there is a description of and announcement for the annual Fitler Square Fair. It says that there will be "Mother's Day gifts, flowers and rare tropical plants and book bargains." This fair is provided by the Fitler Square Improvement Association (FSIA) in order to raise money to keep the area nice.

A Tulip Festival?
In this article, from April 25, 1962, there is an announcement about a Tulip Festival at Fitler Square Park. Interestingly, it is not so much Irish-oriented. The majority of the event is Dutch-centered and the Philadelphia Netherland Society is making all of the preparations.
Tree-Lighting in Fitler Square
In this article, from December 18, 1964, it is being announced that there will be a Christmas tree lighting in the park that night. Once again, the City Council president, Paul D'Ortona will be present at the event. There is also to be caroling by the Rittenhouse Opera Society chorus. It is surprising that for such a small park, there are to be so many important guests.
Fitler Square Protests Loss of New School
In this article, from September 1, 1966, there is coverage of a rally in Fitler Square of "50 mothers, 100 children, a couple of candidates for office...and a huge English sheepdog named Morgan," protesting the cancellation of plans to build an elementary school at 23rd and Chestnut Streets, now called Albert M. Greenfield School. As there were difficulties with construction and property ownership, the Philadelphia school board decided to cancel the plans. What is surprising is that the usually peaceful neighborhood rose up so furiously to this cancellation.
