Rod Holders

I put in 6 of these. One on each side for the three seats. The key is to mount them where you won't hit the line when you are rowing, that's facing forward or backward in the seat. You want it both ways because in a river you'll want to be rowing against the current but facing downstream to hold the boat in position. And in all cases if the fishing line is interfering with rowing that defeats the whole purpose of rod holders. It's a tricky bit of positioning and you'll want to clamp them in place before you drill, put in a rod with a weight on it, then have someone hold it sort of "behind the direction you'll be moving, then sit on the seat and test row. Took me a good weekend to decide where to drill the holes.

Nothing like a good downrigger to keep your line where the fish are.

As you can see, I mounted it just behind the rod holder so I could use both or either, depending on what sort of fishing I'm doing. I picked this Scotty model because it's easy to mount on a boat of this size. As usual, your mileage may vary.

And of course on the back side of the mount, it's a good idea to put a plate, or a plank to spread the load and not crack the hull. I used a bit of varnished mahogany that I had laying around from another project.
