Didcot Trees

Didcot Trees website

Trees, especially large, mature trees, absorb carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, making a crucial contribution towards the reduction of planetary warming, ice cap melting and sea level rise. Their roots ameliorate flood risk by stabilising soil and absorbing water. They provide homes for the biodiversity that we now recognise is so important to food chains, pollination and thus the production of our food. They contribute to the natural landscape we take for granted. They help raise our spirits and maintain our psychological wellbeing.  These environmental and ecological benefits are essential in maintaining the balance of the planet sustainably for future generations.

Created by local resident and community tree champion, Geoff Bushell, the Didcot Trees website aims to inspire a love of trees and appreciation of the many benefits they bring, and to promote understanding of the threats which trees face and encourage everyone to play a part in looking after and protecting them.

The website contains 36 different walks amongst large trees and woods, a list and map of the 50 largest trees in Didcot, information about tree species, and over 600 photos.  The website also contains information on the protection of trees, including a link to a council map showing protected trees.
