The events carried out by Sustainable Didcot are run by local volunteers. Events are decided at our regular planning meetings (see upcoming events for meeting details), and projects are overseen by our committee of volunteers.

"My day job is a research scientist at the Diamond Light Source synchrotron based on Harwell campus. Whilst technology will provide a certain amount of fixes to climate problems, I think the solutions to a lot of issues currently facing humanity require strong and resilient communities, and more accessible pathways to share key climate information to the general public.

In my role as chair of Sustainable Didcot I help organise the individual projects we do, and help decide how best to use our time and resources. "

"I helped to get Sustainable Didcot started in 2010. Initially with a Swap Shop (now referred to as Didcot Freecycle). Since then the group has grown with many sustainable projects in Didcot.

I am now one of the group’s secretaries and help run the in person Freecycle events and the hugely successful Facebook Freecycle group."

"I have just complete a Masters in Renewable Energy Systems having dropped out of 20 years of working in telecoms.

Initially I contacted Sustainable Didcot to borrow their thermal camera for an assignment, but ended up joining the committee!

Around the time I joined, we started Project RED - to reduce energy usage in Didcot - which I was able to help with thanks to my newly-acquired knowledge.

I have long believed in sustainable living - my family have an organic garden and solar tech on the roof - and was interested in topping up my knowledge or sharing my experiences.

There is so much people can do to live more sustainably, and it is my hope we can help everybody in the community to do so."
