As a graduate of the Colgate teacher education program, I…

…understand my subject and how to teach it.

*This section is copied from my college, pre-service teaching portfolio. One day I'll get around to revising.

During the five years spent at Colgate University I have taken the following Mathematics courses and Education seminar which have all given me a solid understanding of the depth and breadth of the subject I will be teaching as a certified Math instructor at the secondary level. I am also including links to a few unit plans that I composed and taught from during my student teaching semester. I believe the plans illustrate my sense of what is important in a given math topic as well as fine mix of instructional techniques and activities that had my students engage with the material. Lastly, I have added some commentary from my cooperating teachers that points to my familiarity and comfort with the many topics of high school mathematics.

Mentor Teacher Comments:

"Sunil's understanding of mathematics was exceptional. His love of mathematics really came through in his teaching. His lesson plans were well thought out. He spent hours revising his lesson plans until he was confident that he had covered every detail." - Jeanmarie McLean

"Sunil was extremely knowledgeable of the content he presented, and his exceptional effort with the use of technology truly motivated the students...Sunil put in significant amounts of time outside of school on his presentations for the students, on his grading of student work, and his individual help with students after school. His maturity and patience with the students gave them confidence in his ability to teach them...One of his exceptional strengths as a teacher was his ability to connect content to real world applications that the students could understand and relate to." - Constance Rasmussen
