Teacher Research and Development Workshop 

at the

Summer Guitar Conservatory

June 17 - 27, 2024

Registration is now OPEN for the Teacher R&D Workshop at the 2024 Summer Guitar Conservatory.

Teachers will receive State of Texas CPE credits for class sessions provided by Texas Guitar Directors Association.

In addition to 14 hours of CPE Professional Development credits, teachers can also request 2 (two) visits to their classroom later (sessions scheduled at convenience of teacher and the teacher-trainer).

This year our focus is: "Guitar ensembles at all levels."

Guitar teachers of any age or experience may register.

Teachers should be able to read standard music notation. 

(Loaner instrument and unlimited technique consultation is available, just ask!  No classical guitar experience required.)

The Teacher R & D Workshop is an opportunity for guitar teachers to meet together, play through ensemble repertoire, discuss and practice conducting techniques and to learn from each other.  The workshop will draw on the GuitarCurriculum.com repertoire and teaching approaches, as well as from other sources.

Registration is free.  There is a suggested donation of $20 per day.   For CPE credit, teachers need to join or renew their membership with the Texas Guitar Directors Association.

The 2024 Teacher R & D Workshop will be facilitated by:  Mr. Garvin, Ms. Cannon and other highly-qualified members of the faculty.

The schedule for the workshop is:

June 17, 2024-- 8:30am - Opening presentation and warm-up (Band Hall)

June 18, 20, 21; 24, 25, 26 -- 8:30am - 3:10pm  (with 45-min lunch break)  -- Beginner Guitar Technique and Ensemble Education

June 27, 2024 -- 8:30am - 1:00pm - Final student concert of the Conservatory at 1:30pm.

All events are held in at Bellaire High School. 

(Check-in at registration desk, 8:00am - 8:30am, June 17)

Refreshments / lunch NOT provided, please bring your own.  OR inquire about catered lunch.  

T-shirts may be available for purchase.

Space is very limited, so please register right away and make all confirmation arrangements by email.  

Teachers: please select one or more ensemble pieces from the GuitarCurriculum.com repertoire, Andrew Forrest repertoire, Eythorsson Guitar School repertoire or from another source.  Please try to have the PDF ready to share with other registrants in advance.  We will send out selected pieces in advance for other teachers to practice.  (This is OPTIONAL, sight-reading and ensemble repertoire will be provided).
