Student registration for the 2024 Summer Guitar Conservatory is NOW OPEN.

(Registration will be open until May 31, 2024).

Registration Information:

TO REGISTER:    Please read the instructions below and then click on the "REGISTER" link below to fill in a form to reserve your student's place at the Conservatory.

The Conservatory is free for all students!

Parents and community-minded individuals:  Please consider donating $20 to $160 towards a student scholarship.

Students ages 11-18 may register for the eight day June 2024 Conservatory.

Students must have a strong interest in learning more about the guitar and they must commit to practicing and performing on stage at the final concert, Thursday, June 27, 1:30pm.  

If the student does not have his or her own guitar, the Conservatory has full-size classical guitars available for the student's use.

LUNCH:  Lunch is provided by HISD at 11:30am - 12noon each day  (Cafeteria).   (Subject to change).

VIDEO AUDITION (optional):

For students that want to join higher level ensembles:  Please make a video with you playing your guitar.  Dress nicely, please, and sit in classical guitar position. Play a classical, nylon-string guitar for the video.  We need to see the whole body, both hands and feet.   The student should say their name, their age, and the solo they will play.  Then play their solo for video camera.  If they know how to bow, they should do that at the end. 

For students that want to be considered for the  Advanced Ensemble  (the top group): In addition to the solo video above, the student needs to also perform the Advanced Ensemble Audition Piece, using perfect "i-m" alternation technique.  See the Advanced Ensemble audition page for more information about qualifying for the top group and receiving special recognition at the Concert Finale.
