There was no intention to prepare even a semi-structured interview. In keeping with the principles of the auto-driven interview discussed in Section 2.5, participants were encouraged to choose the direction of their responses and my questions attempted to pursue the lines of enquiry which arose from those responses. However, particularly with the younger students, a few questions were held in reserve as prompts when needed. These are they:
- Pick a photo which shows a good example of learning and tell me a little about it.
- Tell me about the learning going on in this [my choice] photo.
- Which photos looking back do you feel might not be such good examples of learning? Why is that?
- Are there any photos that you might group together? What would you call that group and why? Any other groups?
- Are there any photos which stand out on their own as different examples of learning? Tell me about them.
- Are there any photos which are typical of the kind of learning you usually experience? Tell me more about it/them. Or any which are quite different from normal?
- Are there any examples of learning which you experience, but weren’t able to capture? Is there any aspect of your learning missing?
