6.2 Limitations

The respondents in this study were chosen by largely by circumstance, with an attempt to draw from a range of ages. As such it is entirely possible, given the sample size, that they aren't representative of the student body as a whole and that the views they present may be skewed. Owing to the somewhat brief duration for which cameras were used, the image bank participants assembled was limited in scope and in need of further development. Although interviews with respondents were around half an hour, perhaps an appropriate length to expect a teenager to devote full attention and participation, some of the emerging themes could have been further developed if a second session were possible. Yet asking individuals to give over more of their personal time did not feel appropriate.

The original aspirations for the study were rather more grand, perhaps expecting too much from potential participants and as a consequence had to be reined in, sacrificing depth for a little more breadth. One would therefore not be confident extrapolating these findings to inform a plan of action for radical change, instead perhaps using them as a springboard for a more detailed and/or wide-ranging study.
