This study is an exploration of learning as seen through the eyes of our students and additionally, is it possible to successfully record and articulate that perception using visual methods, specifically through still photography? Although learning theories and models of learning are well documented in the literature, the ways in which young people understand what they are doing when they are 'learning' is less common. We need to explore their opinions, how they feel and important factors which have an impact.
Young people are still developing their vocabulary and are unlikely to have much experience discussing how they learn. They need to be provided with a 'voice', a means with which they feel comfortable and confident articulating their thoughts and through which their thoughts can be revealed to others.
As Jacqueline Rogers, author, so eloquently puts it “For me, images and stories are powerful metaphors which carry and convey the freight of the inexpressible. Working with language and imagery keeps me grounded mostly, and safe from too much metaphysical vertigo.”
