ALEX HALEY
1200 Everett This was the first house built by African Americans in this area. Mr. Anderson died before the house was completed but his wife “Cousin Georgia” completed the residence. “Cousin Georgia is the person that Alex Haley credits for giving him the basic information and provided him the inspiration to write his book Roots. Alex came to this residence to get information from Mrs. Anderson. He refers to her several times in his album entitled Roots. He also gathered information and pictures from Ms. Anderson’s daughter, Beatrice Neeley.
