Johnson Family

The Johnson Family came originally from Monkwearmouth in Sunderland, Co. Durham.  The direct ancestry has been traced back to Joseph Johnson who was born in Sunderland circa 1806, and with his wife Jane Davison, who had at least 7 children.  His son John, a shipwright, married Sarah Lawther in 1857.  They moved to Gloucester in the 1860s and in turn his son, William Herbert Johnson, moved on to Oxford with his wife, Winifred (nee Smith), at the turn of the 20th Century.  William and Winifred had 6 children - John Robert Vernon Johnson, Sidonia Grace Johnson, Henry Cuthbert Conyers Johnson, Phyllis Delores Johnson (who died at 2mths old), Gwendoline Janette Johnson and Norman Roy Johnson.
