John Derry (1810-1892)

John Derry was born in Belgrave, Leicestershire the son of William Derry and Ester North. In 1841 he is listed as a sock maker but by 1851 he has moved to Nottingham and is working for the Midland Railway as a Railway Gatekeeper. He married twice firstly to Martha Knight and secondly to Eliza Sheppard. John and Martha had 6 children - William, Ruth, John, Martha, Charles and another William.

William Derry (1859-1905)

William Derry was born at Railway House, Meadow Lane, Nottingham the youngest son of John Derry and Martha Knight. He also worked for the Midland Railway as a Goods Guard. He married Mary Ellen Heath on 7 August 1889 at Sneinton Parish Church, Nottingham. In 1891 they were living in Widnes, Lancashire where their eldest son John was born. In 1892 they were living at Covington Street, Derby but by 1897 they were back in Nottingham - living at 34 Sutton Street. They had 5 children: John, Ruth, Kate, Charles and Amy (shown below)

Mary Ellen Derry (nee Heath) (1861-1935)

Mary Ellen, aka Ellen, was born in Sneinton, Nottingham the daughter of Charles Heath and Ann (late Eatch formerly Heston). In 1871 Mary Ellen is living with John and Eliza Sawbridge as their adopted daughter. In the 1881 census she is listed as a lace mender. In the 1911 census she is listed as a widow and living at 34 Sutton Street with her five children. In 1925 she is living at Ryehill Terrace, Ryehill Street, Nottingham.
