Prayers of the People

4th of Easter - April 22, 2018 - Earth Day

Let us ask the God of creation to send a blessing upon us. Upon the rich earth send a blessing, O Lord. Let the earth be fruitful and its resources be hallowed. We ask in faith:

we ask you to hear us, good Lord.

Upon human labour send a blessing, O Lord. Prosper the work of our hands; may all find dignity and just reward in their work; free the exploited and oppressed. We ask in faith:

we ask you to hear us, good Lord.

Upon the produce of the earth send a blessing, O Lord. Guide us into a sustainable future, and give us the will to share the fruits of the world. We ask in faith:

we ask you to hear us, good Lord.

Upon the seas and waters send a blessing, O Lord. Teach us to cherish the water of the earth, and to conserve the seas, lakes and rivers. We ask in faith:

we ask you to hear us, good Lord.

Upon the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund and other agencies send a blessing, O Lord. Where the earth is parched; where there is war; where the poor cry out for bread and for justice, give hands to care and heal, and compel us to be generous. We ask in faith:

we ask you to hear us, good Lord.

Holy God, earth and air and water and all things living are of your creation: have mercy on us as climate change confronts us. Give us the will and the courage to simplify the way we live, to reduce the energy we use, to share the resources you provide, and to bear the cost of change. Forgive our past mistakes and send us your Spirit, grant us wisdom and courage to see a future of your choosing. We ask in faith:

we ask you to hear us, good Lord.

Give us wisdom, O God, to plan for safe and sustainable communities, to reduce our consumption of energy and resources, and to find homes for everyone. Make us rich in community-builders and generous neighbours. Raise up people of faith to seek the welfare of the cities and communities where they live and to proclaim your peace. We ask in faith:

we ask you to hear us, good Lord.

Today, in our cycle of prayer we pray for the people of the parishes of Christ Church, Dartmouth: St. Andrew’s, Cole Harbour, and Eastern Passage. We pray for calm and reason to guide world leaders who threaten one another economically, politically, and militarily, especially in Russia, China, and the USA. We pray for compassion, healing and peace in places of long-lasting and complicated conflict like Syria, Palestine, Myanmar, Central African Republic, South Sudan.

We pray for those we know who are ill (at home or in the hospital), especially…

And others we may name out loud, or in our hearts…

Only use if there is a name to be prayed for…

Receive into your eternal life all who have died, especially

-

that they may have life in Christ’s name.

We pray that you will send the fire of the Holy Spirit upon us, and that we may be forgiven all our sins and bear faithful witness to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

We praise you, living God: you give strength to the earth that sustains us,

you open your hand to feed all living things.

We praise you, Lord Jesus Christ: you teach us with stories of seeds and weeds and harvest time,

you call us to accept your word and bear much fruit.

We praise you, Holy Spirit, fire of love: you are the breath of life in every creature,

you refresh our thirsty souls with grace.

Blessed be God, Source of Wisdom, living Word, abiding Spirit,

   Blessed be God for ever.

   Amen. Alleluia!
