Parish Health Ministry

Our next meeting is Sunday, July 14, 2024 at 11 am-- in the room next to the Family Center Office.

All are welcome.

Blood pressure screening continues  monthly after all Masses, usually the last full weekend of the month. Members of the Parish Health Ministry will be at the front pew in the church or in the hallway of the family center after the Mass.

We could really use more people to take blood pressures, especially at the 5 pm Saturday Mass and 11 (or 10 am summer) Sunday Mass.  Please contact Diane Dover, sjsadultedrcia@gmail.com or 517-467-2106.

CDC COVID UPDATES from Parish Health Ministry

- Another updated version of the COVID-19 vaccine is expected to be available this fall, around the same time as the flu vaccine.  Scientists are currently determining which strains of the virus will be included, with a decision expected in May.

- The government is suspending a federal program that ships free COVID-19 tests to people's homes beginning March 8.  Any orders placed on or before the deadline will be delivered.

- On March 1, the CDC updated its COVID-19 guidance, dropping its previous recommendation that people who test positive should isolate for 5 days. The new guidance recommends people whose symptoms are improving overall and have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication can return to normal activities.  Remember, individual employer policies may differ from the CDC recommendations; make sure to check with your employer as needed.

- The CDC issued recommendations on February 28 that adults 65 and older receive a second dose of the latest COVID-19 vaccine this spring.
