While we remain primarily a parent participation program, SPIDER families also have the opportunity to drop off their children at Roberts Creek Community Elementary and at Camp Byng. Please read the protocols below for details.

SPIDER Elementary Drop-Off Protocols
Key Elements:
1. Drop-off available 9:30-2:30 Tuesday at RCCES and Thursday at Camp Byng/alternate locations for Grade 3-6s, and Tuesdays at RCCES only for Grades K-2.
2. Drop-off available for up to 6 SPIDER learners in Grades 3–6 and 2 SPIDER learners in Grades K-2 per day, with specific guidelines for supervision, participation and protocol.
3. Students dropped off for the day will be referred to as “Team SPIDER”.
4. We request that new families attend a few sessions with their students before using TeamSPIDER, so as to get a feel for the program and its expectations and to make sure drop off is a good fit for their child. Frequent users are encouraged to attend session once in awhile to reconnect.
5. Aim to attend parents meetings so that you can stay connected to the community.
Benefits:
1. Allowing SPIDER learners in a variety of family situations to participate in Tuesday and/or Thursday sessions without their parents and learn at home for the other 5 days/week.
2. Allowing SPIDER learners the opportunity to gain independence and positive social development skills in a safe learning environment.
3. Maintaining the core value of Parent Participation with high adult/student ratios.

2. Parents looking to drop off their children are can access the online sign up form starting Friday morning if they need to know for sure whether a spot is available or not the next week. Spots will be granted on a first-come first-served basis and a waitlist will be taken. You can also email Sheena to request a spot during office hours (9-3 Wednesdays and Fridays). You may request later in the week (even up to the morning of) but must be prepared to stay if there is no space or the day's activities are incompatible with drop-off. SPIDER teachers will track attendance in Team SPIDER.
3. Team SPIDER students will be signed-in by their Parent or Guardian by checking in on attendance sheet, along with communicating directly with their teacher consultant.
4. Names of Team SPIDER members will be noted on white-boards at each site in large clear writing to help the whole community know which children are in Team SPIDER for the day. This is not an official record but a visual aid.
5. Team SPIDER students must be picked up by an approved adult directly from the teachers, unless alternate arrangements have been made. Students must not leave without getting confirmation from the teacher that they are leaving. If a student has parent permission to arrive or depart independently this will be communicated in advance.
6. Drop-off and Pick-up times are firm and must be adhered to.
7. If a Team SPIDER student is ill or needs to leave, Parents, Guardians or alternate caregivers will be expected to come to pick them up.
8. LUNCH at Roberts Creek: Team SPIDER students will be supervised by the SPIDER teachers during scheduled Lunch times (12:15 – 1:00). They must not go outside until a teacher is ready to supervise. Team SPIDER students will be introduced to the schoolyard boundaries and expectations.
9. LUNCH at Camp Byng/alternate locations: Team SPIDER students will be supervised by the SPIDER teachers during scheduled Lunch times. They must not go outside until a teacher is ready to supervise. If there is a parent volunteer for Lunch Supervision they will be familiar with the Team SPIDER children listed on the White Board, available to all SPIDER students during Lunch hour, and regularly walking the boundary perimeter. Parents and teachers will support each other in finding consistent and equitable ways for community members to take on this job.
10. Team SPIDER students are expected to attend all programming sessions. Quiet reading or watching the activity would be acceptable alternatives if a student is uninterested in an occasional session.
11. During programming sessions teachers hold the general responsibility for the safety and welfare of all students including those in Team SPIDER. As always, parents are welcome participants in all SPIDER sessions. SPIDER teachers reserve the right to ask all parents to be present for certain activities.
12. Participation in Team SPIDER will be at the discretion of the SPIDER teachers. If an incident occurs with a learner while participating in Team SPIDER, teachers reserve the right to remove the opportunity for this learner to participate for a certain amount of time.
13. Parent Participation is a big part of SPIDER and will continue to be as it is a core value. Maintaining the parent role as primary educator and continuing to create and distribute parent jobs will allow for all families to participate in SPIDER and volunteer their time in ways that they are able. Examples of other ways to participate beyond attending sessions include: attending community gatherings, organizing or attending events outside SPIDER days, volunteering for SPIDER jobs, staying to help out at pick up, and attending Parent Meetings.
