Southcliff upper trails hikers,
Please be aware that at approximately 0.1 mile up from the Upper Trails trailhead (by the first water tower) on Summit Trail, an overhead hazard looms, which could cause serious harm to hikers. Its specific location is where a large section of a fallen tree has been cut and removed from the trail and just before a huge rootball sits next to the trail.
The hazard (photo attached) is a large detached limb caught up in tree branches 30 to 40 feet above the ground (unfortunately, too high for us to pull it down). Strong winds, an adjacent falling branch, or the weakening of a supporting branch could easily cause it to fall on the trail at any time. If it were to strike a hiker when it falls, that hiker could be seriously injured.
Please DO NOT LINGER underneath this limb.
