Southcliff Trail Committee Members (* = Non voting members)
The Trails Committee wants to hear from you! If you notice something on the trail that needs attention (tree blocking trail, ground hornets, poison ivy encroaching on trail), have suggestions for trail improvements, want to ask a question, or would like to offer other input, please let us know. You can call or send an email to our Committee Chair or contact any other Committee member.
Each of the trails is assigned to a Committee member, as shown below, for monitoring and regular inspection. Any safety hazards or maintenance issues observed on trail inspections are reported to the Committee Chair.
Mission
The mission of the Trails Committee is to create and maintain safe, sustainable and enjoyable trails for all fitness levels through collaborative planning and Southcliff community involvement.
Guiding Principles
The Committee intends for the following prioritized principles to guide its decisions and actions:
Ensure hiker safety
Protect natural resources
Maintain trails integrity
Facilitate enjoyable experiences
Responsibilities
Subject to any rule changes adopted by the Southcliff POA Board, the Committee accepts responsibility for performing the following:
Advise and respond to specific requests from the Board on issues directly related to creating, enhancing and maintaining trails in Southcliff community
Monitor and maintain trails and trail structures through deployment of contractors, Committee members and other resident volunteers
Train volunteers and direct their work to ensure safety
Remove trees that have fallen on trails or pose significant safety risks (e.g. leaners)
Repair, reroute, create or enhance trails to improve safety or sustainability
Clear debris from adjacent creeks, drains, or drainage ditches that is causing erosion or other damage to trails
Communicate trails issues to Southcliff residents which pose safety risks for hikers
Assist Board in developing annual budget for Committee responsibilities and monitor expenditures vs. approved budget throughout the year
Objectives
The Committee plans to achieve its mission above through pursuit of the following objectives:
Monitor trails to ensure resident hiking experiences are safe ones
Remediate issues impacting trails use in a timely manner
Invite regular community participation in trails activities and projects
Maximize cost efficiency through judicious deployment of contractors
Educate residents to enhance the safe use, protection, and enjoyment of trails
Actively seek resident input on trail changes and improvements
