heart for the house: south bay vision series 2024

What makes South Bay Bible Church a “house” where God loves to dwell? We are pleased to announce the start of Heart for the House: South Bay Vision Series 2024 on Sunday, January 14, at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Join us in person or online at southbaychurchli.org/livestream, Facebook Live, or YouTube. 

“We want our local church to be a place where people can encounter a living God” said Matt Horne, lead pastor. 

Whether you’re a part of our church family or not, you’re invited to join us for this five-part series, Heart for the House, as Pastor Matt teaches us the unique elements that attract God’s presence in a local church.

1. A House of Presence (Exodus 33) – January 14: The one distinguishing factor for God’s people is God’s presence with them. Without the presence of God, we only have a show. What does it look like to be a congregation marked by His presence? How do we ensure that our church is a place where people can encounter a living God?

2. A House of Preference (1 Corinthians 10; 2 Timothy 2:19-22) – January 21: To seek God wholeheartedly requires that we simultaneously stop seeking lesser things. The idols of our flesh and our culture can only offer us a cheap substitute for the ultimate satisfaction of the abundant life that God offers. We must choose to make the presence of God our “one thing.”

3. A House of Prayer (Mark 11:15-19) – January 28: It is easy for us to make church about anything and everything except prayer. The scriptures tell us that God not only hears our prayers, but that He is near to those who call on Him in prayer, and that’s what we want – the nearness of God. So then, we must learn to be a people who love to call on Him in prayer. 

4. A House of Praise (Psalm 92:1-4; Hebrews 13:15) – February 4: When we worship, we join in the song that creation and angels already sing. Indeed, it is good to give thanks to God and worship him in song. Why? Because God inhabits the praises of His people. In other words, where His praise is loud, His presence is felt. 

5. A House of Practice (1 Peter 1:13-23) – February 11: The greatest form of flattery is imitation. We want to be a people who strive to imitate God’s character and follow God’s way.
