I. Objective: You will research the levels of Dante's Inferno and create a presentation. (40 points)
#1 --Follow these links to learn more about Dante and his story:
http://www.danteinferno.info/circles-of-hell/ -- names the levels
http://www.danteinferno.info/characters/ -- shows some characters in each level
http://danteworlds.laits.utexas.edu/ -- good, general information about the story
http://foxtwin.com/inferno/ -- my favorite site --LOTS of information, pictures & explanations
http://www.italianstudies.org/hui235/outline_of_inferno.htm --describes the settings in a more explicit way; you'll have to read through each Canto to find the description.
http://www.shmoop.com/inferno/canto-i-summary.html -- each Canto is summarized
#2 --Answer the following questions about each level (or sub-level) on the foldable (Levels 3-9)
1. What is the name of the level and the sin?
2. What is the punishment?
3. Describe the general landscape of the level.
4. Who is a famous person that Dante meets on this level?
5. Name a modern day person who could be sent to this level and tell why (you have to have a news article or encyclopedia reference in order to name the person here....It can't be "just because"....). You can use imaginary monsters, politicians, celebrities, literary characters -- but NOT people in your family or from WLHS.
6. Theme: What is Dante trying to say about the nature of justice? Write a theme statement (like we've practiced) and two examples from the text.
II. Choose your presentation topic & method (40 points):
Voki
#3 (a) -- Choose your "favorite" level. Go to http://www.voki.com and create a voki about the level. You can be yourself or the person that resides there. Tell about your sin (why you're there) and punishment. (You'll have to type this in, but when the voki talks, you still only have a minute; be careful with word choice!) Include a Works Cited (Sources) page.
#4 (a) -- After you finish, embed the Voki on the Padlet site here: http://padlet.com/smccabe291/dante2015
_________'s Inferno
#3 (b) Create your own version of the Inferno. You'll name it after Dante; for example, mine would be McCabe's Inferno. Open a new Google slide show (PowerPoint) to write your own revenge piece. What sins would you put in "hell"? How are they organized? What are the punishments? Who are the people you would see there? What do the levels/sections look like? Who goes with you on your journey --you need a mentor! You can use imaginary monsters, politicians, celebrities, literary characters -- but NOT people in your family or from WLHS. Your job on this assignment is to make kids your age see Dante's relevance in the modern day.
OR
Option B: Create your own nine circles of [something else], such as love, trust, respect, relationships, etc. Or, you can be a little more creative and create an alternate “Hell”. Two examples are a Hollywood Hell (fashion no-nos, love triangles, one-hit wonders, etc.) or a Sports Hell (throwing the game, steroid usage, red shirted, etc.).
#4 (b) After you finish, share the document with me, then create an Animoto video with pictures, an online comic strip, Prezi, or art piece.
#5 -- HONORS ONLY ---throughout the process, type Discussion questions and responses in the Discussion Board and respond to a couple of other people -- (if there is time)

**NOTE: All writing you do here is PUBLIC, so don't be mean, condescending, or rude!
Help each other out, but let me know if you have questions...

Presentation Topic: 40 points --> Creates a hierarchy of an inferno; use of technology to enhance your research; visually creative; accurate information (for the Voki); quality work.
Works Cited: 20 points --> You include the website addresses for your information and pictures; no "Google images" as the website; the sources are named and clear (example: Brittany Spears picture: www.ihateherhair.com/brittany_spears).
