Since November 2018, I have been the gender equality delegate of the University of Luxembourg.Â
Here are a few initiatives and resources we are focusing on:
Anne Beffort Professorial Positions: The Anne Beffort Excellence Programme is dedicated to empowering excellence, advancing diversity and fostering inclusive academic leadership in higher education. It offers female scholars the opportunity to advance their research agenda and achieve their academic ambitions. Through tenure and promotion-track positions for outstanding researchers, Anne Beffort Professorships are designed to boost female career progression and strengthen academic leadership.
ADVANCE Mentoring Program: This program is designed to foster a supportive research culture, strengthen connections within the academic community, and promote opportunities for researchers to advance their careers.
Marie Speyer Excellence Grants: These grants are aimed at enhancing the existing research endeavors of women researchers at our university and facilitating the inception of innovative research concepts.
Women Leaders: Women Leaders is a lecture series that brings inspirational women to engage in conversations with the young researchers in Luxembourg, aiming to break stereotypes and show that women are remarkable and effective leaders. The invited speakers are also actively participating in supporting Gender Equality in their home institutions and thus advise on the best practices for greater inclusion for women, and minority groups.
Work-Life Balance: In addition to general measures in place, the Gender Equality Office provides childcare support during international conferences or conferences organized by the university.
Gender in Research and Teaching: Beyond representation, we encourage our researchers to consider the broader dimensions of gender in their work. Whether planning a project or a course, we recommend integrating sex and gender analysis. The Gender Equality Office can assist in finding resources to help approach work inclusively.
Inclusive Language Guidelines and Preferred Names: The university actively promotes inclusive communication and provides a safe space where the identity of each individual is respected.
LGBT+ Community: The LGBT+ student organization (LGBT+@uni.lu) organizes safe spaces for the University of Luxembourg's LGBT+ community and allies.
