TIPS:

-Be sure to use a harness on your dog and safety gear for you.

-Hold the leash securely in your hand but don't put the loop around your wrist. This way you can let go of the leash if you need to -- for example if you and your dog happen to go around opposite sides of a tree or pole.

-I have more tips at the bottom of the page - watch my videos to see how to inline skate with your dog.

MORE TIPS:

-Always keep your knees slightly bent - especially when going over bumps - this helps absorb bumps and allows you to better keep your balance.

-Wear your safety gear - especially knee pads. I wear the smaller soft knee pads under my jeans.

-Our vet said skating with our dog is wonderful exercise for the dog and the people.

-Dogs overheat faster than people since they only perspire through the mouth – so you need to be careful in very hot weather.

-Running and skating can trigger prey drive in other dogs so dog attacks can occur -- I know, Tofu got attacked once by a labor doodle – a big dog can do a lot of damage or kill a small dog very quickly. If you have a small dog, stop and pick up your dog if an unfamiliar big dog is approaching off leash (You should do this even if you are just walking your dog)..

Especially, avoid skating/running fast toward big unfamiliar dogs who are off leash. (Don't skate into trouble) Other dogs often take this to be aggression and it can irritate them and make them aggressive. When going away from another dog use your judgement. We have outrun quite a few unfamiliar dogs who were chasing after us from behind - I didn't want to wait and see what would happen.

-When first skating with your dog, do so in an open area where there aren't many obstructions, people, or other dogs.

-Teach your dog a slow command so that they well slow down when you are preparing to stop. You can do this by running the dog until they are tired and slow down on their own, and then say slow and praise them.

-Have fun and good luck!
