2016 Arctic Tern monitoring project instructions

This new monitoring project starts in April 2016, with the focus on a small ARTE breeding colony located on the Ore Terminal peninsula.

All are welcome to contribute to this monitoring project using eBird and the hotspot "Skagway -- arctic tern colony"

You do not need to be at the exact spot shown on the map to collect stationary observations at an eBird hotspot. Also, while making stationary observations, you can move approximately 30 meters (30 yards) around the area of the hotspot.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

MINI monitor the absolute minimum, using eBird or email to sbc@aptalaska.net

only requires:

place (general area of hotspot above)

date

party size (# people observing)

# of ARTE seen/heard (of any age)

complete checklist = "no"

BASIC monitor quick and easy, but very valuable, using eBird or email to sbc@aptalaska.net

data requirements are:

place (hotspot above)

observation type (stationary)

date

start time

duration (elapsed time spent observing)

party size (# people observing)

# of ARTE seen/heard (of any age)

complete checklist = "no"

Birders may choose to record other species to create a complete checklist, but it is not required.

EXPANDED monitor describes how to provide more information, if you are inclined. All expanded data is optional.

Using the eBird "details" function, you can record additional observations on age, behavior, scrapes (nests) and eggs, photos, or any other information you wish to provide. Please read the expanded data outline for more information.
