Local History - Eurasian Collared-Dove and Rock Pigeon
The Eurasian Collared-Dove (EUCD) was first reported in our area in 2010. They seem to be slowly moving into our territory, we have been working to document their expansion and breeding in our area.
Rock Pigeon, aka rock dove or city pigeon, (ROPI) have shown up off and on seemingly about every 5-10 years. They have not made it through a winter as of 2017-18.
We have also occasionally recorded Mourning Dove (MODO) in Skagway, most recently in 2023.
If you have any memories or observations you would like to add to this record, please send your comments to: sbc@aptalaska.net
10 Rock Pigeons were reported at the Skagway waterfront. Ethan Gotsch - eBird.
Reports of single or a couple of ROPI were made in May/June of 2008, 2018 and 2019, but they were not seen again in those years. SBC forum.
