Chicks -- fuzzballs without flight feathers

Chick in transition -- flight feathers starting to show with gray color,

Juveniles -- back and wings with

white & gray “banding” may show

some brown;

bill and legs may show some orange;

forehead whitish, dark cap forming

Immatures -- back and wing tops gray without “banding”, no brown;

black bill and legs;

forehead whitish, cap not quite black
