2024-25 Scholarship Recipients

Natalya Hammond is a graduate of Aptos High School and will be the third generation of SJSU students in her family! She will major in the new Information Science and Data Analytics program and then plans to earn her master’s degree in library science.  She LOVES libraries!


Sriman Ujhanthachhen is transferring from Cabrillo to major in Computer Science. He is an International student from Nepal who hopes to eventually return to his home country and establish a program to support other young people in pursuing careers in technical fields. There are currently very few educational or employment opportunities in technical fields in Nepal. 


Paola Vizcarra is a re-entry student with an excellent academic record who is transferring from Cabrillo to pursue a major in Information Science and Data Analytics. She is Peruvian, the mother of two and is married to a disabled American Veteran. Her goal is to use her training and skills to help others.


James Olivia Salguero is an outstanding student and recently graduated with honors and three associate degrees from Cabrillo College. He will major in Psychology with plans to later earn a master’s in library science.


Valeria Cortez-Baez is a recent Watsonville High School graduate who challenged herself by taking several AP classes and earned a very high gpa. She will be the first in her family to attend college (her parents did not complete elementary school in their home country) and will major in Public Health with plans after graduation to return to her hometown to give back to the community.


Christina Haslam is a re-entry student*. She is transferring from Cabrillo College as a Sociology major with plans to earn a master’s in social work. She plans to work with young adults and Spanish-speakers. She wants to live a life of service and may go into policy work to effect change on a larger scale.

 

Jacqueline Mendoza is also a re-entry student transferring from Cabrillo College with a major in Civil Engineering. While at Cabrillo she was deeply involved as a leader in student government. She was awarded our Brian Bates Memorial Scholarship based upon her impressive record of community service.
