Annual Holiday Party and Scholarship Fundraiser to be held Sunday, December 8th

Our annual Holiday Party and Scholarship Fundraiser will be held Sunday, December 8th at Seascape Golf Club in Aptos, California.  Invitations will be mailed out in early October for this event.  Mark your calendars now!

SJSU Interdisciplinary Science Building and Spartan Athletic Center Tour, June 11, 2024

Eighteen chapter members were guests of the SJSU Alumni Association, the College of Science, and the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics for a tour of the new multimillion dollar science building and athletic facility at Spartan Stadium.  Besides visiting these state of the art buildings we were treated to lunch and had the opportunity to meet students working in the research science labs and student-athletes at the stadium.

Moss Landing Marine Laboratories Tour, May 1, 2024

Chapter members were provided a tour of the CSU/SJS Moss Landing Marine Labs by the labs Executive Director.  We not only received information on the history of the labs, but also had the opportunity to visit the joint MLML and MBARI library and meet with graduate students conducting various research projects at the main and coast-side labs.

April 3, 2024 Tour of Joby Aviation Research and Aviation Facility in Marina.

Joby Aviation, an electric vertical take-off and landing (EVTOL) vehicle, research and development business provided us with a view into the future of transportation possibilities.  This was a very informative visit into the future of air transportation located in the Central Coast.



Annual Holiday Party and Scholarship Fundraiser was held on December 3rd

Seven scholarship recipients, SJSU President Cynthia Teniente-Matson, SJSU Vice President for Advancement Judy Nagai, SJS Alumni Association Executive Director Valerie Gonzales and a number of Alumni Association Board members, Fred Keely (Mayor of Santa Cruz) and many chapter members enjoyed a very successful scholarship fundraiser and Holiday Party at Seascape Golf Club in Aptos.  We were able to raise over $8,000 in scholarship founds to support this year's scholarship program.

We had a great turnout for our annual member's BBQ. It was a beautiful afternoon in the redwoods and we had the opportunity to hear from a number of our new and returning scholarship recipients about their experiences at San Jose State University.

Santa Cruz Recycling Center Tour, June 16, 2023

Nineteen members enjoyed the very informational tour of the City of Santa Cruz Recycling Center.   Not only were we presented with a classroom lesson on correct recycling practices, we were able to take an hard hat tour of the recycling center.  It was very informative to see the center in action. 

Tour of the Elkhorn Slough on May 16, 2023

Twenty-two members and family/friends boarded an electric powered catamaran to tour the Elkhorn Slough.  It was a very informative tour, led by a Marine biologist who is doing her master's study at SJSU's Moss Landing Marine Labs.  The wildlife was in abundance, with Sea Otters being the favorite.  Many Sea Otter mothers were teaching their babies to forage to for food. 

Annual Member's BBQ and Meet Our Scholarship Recipients, Sunday, September 11th at Roaring Camp Railroads

Members and scholarship recipients enjoyed a day at the Roaring Camp facility and BBQ.   We had the opportunity to hear from our scholarship recipients on their SJSU experiences. All scholarship recipients that were there highlighted how happy they were to be back on campus and enjoying their in person classes and activities. We also had the opportunity to meet the Interim Executive Director of the SJSU Alumni Association, Valerie Gonzales who gave us a campus update.

Castro Adobe tour was held on Wednesday, May 18th. 

Our tour of the Castro Adobe State Park was lead by State Park's Interpretor Paul Katz and three other Castro Adobe volunteer docents.  It was a private tour of the recently renovated two story historic adobe.  We then followed the tour with a picnic box lunch.  The Castro Adobe was the home of one of the original founders of the Aptos and Watsonville areas.

Members Enjoyed a Guided Tour of Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Bechtel Education Center in Monterey on March 28, 2022.

Board member and longtime Monterey Bay Aquarium charter docent Donna Ziel led a tour of the Monterey Bay Aquarium.  We then toured of the Aquarium's new Bechtel Education Center, a LEED Certified Building.  

The tour was followed by a very informative talk by one of the the aquarium founders, Steve Webster (a former San Jose State Professor).

Annual Holiday Party and Scholarship Fundraiser was held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Dream Inn in Santa Cruz.

We hosted our annual Holiday Party and Scholarship Fundraiser on December 4th at the beautiful Dream Inn in Santa Cruz.  This was our major fundraiser for our scholarship program and had sixty-five guests in attendance.   We had eight  of our scholarship recipients in attendance and they told us about their Fall San Jose State experiences.   Close to $6,000 was raised for our scholarship program.

Annual Members BBQ and Meet our Scholarship Recipients was held on Saturday, September 25, 2021

On Saturday, September 25th we held our Annual Member’s BBQ at Roaring Camp in Felton.   We also  had the opportunity to meet some of our Scholarship Recipients and their families who attended.  The BBQ began at 11:30 am.  The BBQ was free to all members and family and friends were able to attend.  Seven of our scholarships recipients were able to attend and tell us about their SJSU experiences last year and this Fall.   From  1:30-3:00 pm a majority of to attendees rode the Roaring Camp Steam Train into the Redwood Forrest.The Roaring Camp stores, exhibits, and activities were open to all who attended.

Chapter Board Meetings

Chapter board meetings are open to all members.  They are held on the third Wednesday of the month from 10:00am to noon.  In-Person Location (tbd): The clubhouse of Villa Santa Cruz Mobile Home Park off of Felt Street.
