Continuing nursing studies can keep the nurses with new knowledge that keeps pace with the times, and can also be well integrated with the working environment at the time, which can not only make the work more efficient, but also guarantee the well-being and health of the patients.

Nursing Clinical Placements
During my Master of Nursing study, I have finished seven placements.
The first one was at McLean Care® Residential Care facility in Inverell, the main activity of this placement is to learn and perform Providing low-care and high-care to dementia residents in separate units. I also received manual handling training and got Compulsory Manual Handling certificate for McLean Care Staff, and had a preliminary understanding of the living habits of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and developed the skills to communicate with patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
The second placement was at Recovery Camp in Yarramundi. I spent a whole week with people with varying degrees of mental illness, and talked to people with mental illness, participated in activities together, and built trust and teamwork. After finished this placement, I got the certificate of Recovery Camp for professional placement attendance.
The third placement was at Moree District Hospital. I spent two weeks placement in acute unit, and learnt and performed responsibility for measuring patients' obs, helping patients in need of shower, and performed simple and complex dressings, delivered medication and injections under RN's supervision and guidance. I also participated in daily shift hand over and paper works.
The fourth placement was in Dougherty Villa Aged care facility in Grafton. I spent two weeks of morning shifts with Registered Nurse, I observed and learned about the workflow of registered nurses in nursing home, and I also helped and practised with writing nursing notes and other paperwork. In addition, I also attended with medication distribution and practised the skill of health history collection of new admissions.
The fifth placement was at Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital. I spent two weeks placement in Intensive Care Unit and two weeks placement in Day Surgery Unit.
I felt stressful when I first came into ICU, and it was hard for me to see patient being suffered. At the end of the two weeks, I learned some skills of providing care for patient in ICU, I practised my A to G assessment and head to toe assessment everyday, and participated in progress note writing and clinical handover.
During the time of studying in Day Surgery Unit, I learned and practised patient admission everyday, and performed quick A to G assessment for the patient. It was a good opportunity for me to develop my communication skills because I can have plenty admission work and patient information collection work through the day, all of them are required effective communication. I also built up my experience of providing care and monitor patient status after their procedures.
My sixth placement was in Coffs Harbour Hospital, and I spent two weeks in medical unit. During this placement, I practised and reviewed my clinical nursing skills such as handover, making notes, medication distribution, and I also practised some simple and complex dressings. Through this placement, I tried to asked feedback from the RNs I worked with, and I did reflection for myself as well.
The last placement was in Barraba Multi purpose Hospital, I spent four weeks placement in this hospital. It was a different experience from big hospitals, I worked with RNs in acute ward, aged care unit and emergency department. I learned the whole process about how to treat a patient in emergency department, and the whole process from patient admission to discharge. I participated a lot with medication distribution, dressings, fall risk assessment, post fall management, communication with patient and patient's family, progress notes, patient's referral, teamwork with doctor and other health professionals.
